Dr. Michael D Nelson,

Optometrist

dr michael nelsonDr. Nelson received his Optometry degree in Waterloo, ON and completed a family practice & low vision residency at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. He served as the continuing education chair for the Manitoba Association of Optometrists (MAO), and was the president of the MAO from 2000-2003 and was the co-chair for the Canadian Association of Optometrists Congress hosted in Winnipeg in 2011. His interests lie in low vision, management of ocular diseases and sports vision. He loves to keep up-to-date on the latest in ocular research, diagnostic equipment and lens technology.  In 2014, Dr. Nelson was co-awarded the Manitoba Optometrist of the Year, for his work in changing legislation to allow Manitoba Optometrists to write prescriptions for medications to treat eye diseases.  Dr. Nelson is currently the vice-president of the Canadian Association of Optometrists.

Dr. Selena Friesen,

Optometrist

dr selena friesenDr. Friesen started Waverley Eye Care in 1995 and is passionate about providing the best eye care possible. She graduated with honours from the University of Waterloo and received the Johnson & Johnson Award for Excellence in Contact Lens patient care. She has also spent time training at eye clinics in Birmingham and Alberta. She is passionate about ensuring children and adults have the best vision possible.  Dr. Friesen is also a board member of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra and of the Optometry Examining Board of Canada (OEBC).

Dr. Allison Van Dyck,

Optometrist

Dr. Van Dyck graduated with distinction from Pacific University College of Optometry in Forest Grove, Oregon. During this time she trained at a private practice in North Dakota, an ocular disease co-management facility in Virginia, a military placement in Maryland and a paediatric & vision therapy rotation at Pacific University. She also had the privilege of participating in an eye care service mission to an underserved population in eastern Oregon with AMIGOS Eye Care, affiliated with Pacific University. She is interested in contact lens fittings and assessments, routine and complex eye exams and providing diabetic eye care. Born and raised in Winnipeg, she is delighted to return to Manitoba and is passionate about providing excellent eye care to all she encounters. Dr. Van Dyck is committed to lifelong learning so that she can meet each patient’s ever-changing needs.
