What is Amblyopia

Amblyopia, also known as lazy eye, affects up to 5% of the population and is the most common cause of partial monocular (one eye) vision loss.

Lazy eye is an early childhood condition where the connections from the eye to the brain do not develop normally. When we are born the connections from the eye to the brain are not completely developed. If there is a clear image on the retina, then the nerve fiber connections to the brain will strengthen and develop. If there is not a clear image on the retina then the connections do not develop and this results in poor vision.
