Patient education is at the core of our philosophy. We believe that an informed patient is a proactive patient. We’ll take the time to explain any eye conditions you may have in clear, understandable language.
Our team will discuss treatment options, answer your questions, and empower you to make informed decisions about your eye health.
Getting the Diagnosis Right
Our commitment to excellence extends to our technology. We use innovative tools like optos retinal imaging to provide a comprehensive view of the inside of your eye.
Retinal imaging lets us detect early signs of eye diseases such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy.
Think of retinal imaging as taking a picture of the intricate details at the back of your eye, allowing us to identify potential problems before they can significantly impact your vision.
Eye Exams: A Window to Your Overall Health
Regular eye exams are about more than just checking your vision for glasses or contacts. They are a vital tool for detecting eye diseases in their early stages, often before you experience any noticeable symptoms.
We recommend comprehensive eye exams at every stage of life, starting from childhood.
Early detection and intervention are crucial for managing eye conditions effectively and protecting your vision for the future.

A Proactive Approach to Myopia
For children diagnosed with nearsightedness (myopia), we offer a comprehensive myopia management program. Our myopia management program aims to slow down the progression of myopia, helping your child maintain clear vision for longer.
By addressing myopia early, we can potentially reduce the risk of future eye complications associated with nearsightedness.

Common Eye Diseases & Conditions
Eye diseases and other conditions can affect your vision in several different ways.
Everyone’s eyes are unique, as are the potential risks for different conditions. Discussing some common eye issues together lets us see if any early signs apply to you and why regular eye exams are essential for catching problems early.
Consider your eyes as windows to your overall health. A comprehensive eye exam can sometimes reveal signs of systemic conditions like diabetes or high blood pressure. We’ll work collaboratively with your primary care physician to help you receive an effective treatment plan.
Glaucoma
Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases that damage the optic nerve. The optic nerve sends visual information from your eyes to your brain so that any damage can lead to vision loss and blindness.
There are different types of glaucoma, but most develop without noticeable symptoms and can lead to permanent vision loss if not caught and managed. High intraocular pressure (IOP) is a significant risk factor for glaucoma, so we measure it during ever routine eye exam. We then perform a comprehensive glaucoma workup on at-risk individuals.
Cataracts
Cataracts develop when the eye’s usually clear lens becomes clouded, causing blurry vision, faded or yellowed colours, and difficulty seeing at night.
Cataracts begin when proteins in the eye clump together, partially blocking light from reaching the retina, the thin layer of tissue that lines the back of the eye. They often occur due to natural age-related changes in the eyes.
If cataracts progress to a later stage and prevent you from going about your daily activities, such as reading or driving, we may recommend cataract surgery.
Age-Related Macular Degeneration
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a progressive disease that damages your macula and affects your central vision. Macular damage can make daily activities like reading and driving much more difficult.
There are 2 common types of AMD:
- Dry AMD is the more common form of the disease and occurs when the macula thins with age.
- Wet AMD is less common but can cause faster and more severe vision loss. It occurs when abnormal blood vessels grow in the back of the eye and damage the macula.
We use detailed ocular imaging to diagnose macular degeneration.
Diabetic Eye Disease
Diabetes increases the risk of eye diseases like glaucoma, cataracts, and diabetic retinopathy.
Diabetic retinopathy damages the retinal blood vessels and is the primary cause of vision loss for those with diabetes. Learn more about our diabetic eye exams by clicking here.
Eye Infections
Eye infections can be uncomfortable and impair your vision. Red, scratchy eyes and discharge are common symptoms of an infection. Common causes can include bacteria, viruses, allergies, poor contact lens hygiene, and dry eye.
Conjunctivitis (pink eye) is common type of eye infection that can highly infectious. But we can help manage pink eye to help relieve symptoms and prevent complications.
If you’re experiencing eye discomfort or suspect an infection, it’s important to see an optometrist. We can diagnose the underlying cause and recommend appropriate treatment.
Flashes & Floaters
Flashes and floaters are common eye issues that can be unnerving and visually intrusive.
Flashes can appear as quick streaks of light or flickers. Floaters are small, dark specks or lines that drift across your vision.
These happen due to changes in the vitreous, the gel filling the eye’s centre. As we age, the vitreous can shrink and sometimes tear, pulling on the retina (flashes) or forming clumps (floaters).
Although these symptoms are usually harmless, they can occasionally signal serious eye problems like retinal detachment. If you notice sudden flashes or floaters, see an optometrist.

Understanding Your Risk Factors
Several factors can increase your risk of developing eye diseases. We can help you understand these risk factors so you can take steps to minimize them:
- Lifestyle Choices: Smoking is a major risk factor for several eye diseases. Maintaining a healthy diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and omega-3 fatty acids can contribute to eye health.
- Age: As we age, our risk of developing certain eye conditions like cataracts and macular degeneration increases. Regular eye exams are crucial for early detection and management.
- Family History: If you have a family history of eye disease, you may be at a higher risk. Regular eye exams are essential for early detection.
