Strengthening the Reading & Learning Connection
Reading and learning difficulties can frustrate both children and parents and impede academic success. Our reading and learning analysis program aims to go beyond a traditional eye exam to assess if underlying vision skills are hindering your child’s ability to read and learn effectively.
Reading is a complex skill requiring seamless coordination of multiple visual abilities. Our team works closely with you and your children to address their unique visual needs.

Request AppointmentIdentifying Underlying Vision Issues
We can identify potential vision skill weaknesses contributing to reading difficulties through our assessment. These may include:
- Fixation Problems: Difficulty focusing on a single word or line of text.
- Binocular Vision Issues: Difficulties with eye teaming that can cause double vision or blurry text.
- Visual Processing Deficits: Slow processing speed can make keeping up with classmates reading pace difficult.
Assessing Reading Comprehension: How Vision Helps Us Read & Write
To understand what we read, we’re constantly taking in visual information and decoding it from the written word into a mental image. Memory and visualization help us connect new information to what we already known, making sense of the material.
Writing works similarly, but almost works in reverse order.
We start with an image in our mind and code it into words. At the same time, we control the movement of our pencil or keyboard clicks, continually working to keep the written material making sense. Throughout all this, we focus our eyes and move them together just as in the reading process.
Personalized Vision Rehabilitation Programs
If our analysis reveals vision skill weaknesses, we can develop a personalized vision rehabilitation program tailored to your child’s needs. This program could incorporate:
- Vision Therapy Exercises: Targeted exercises to help improve focus, eye teaming, tracking, and visual processing skills.
- Visual Training Activities: Fun and engaging activities that can help strengthen visual skills in a way that feels more like play than work.
- Vision Therapy Tools: Specialized tools and technology to help enhance specific visual skills.
